The first Sandlings Sessions took place on Saturday 4th February 2017 at the stunning Snape Maltings in Suffolk.
The day began at 9.30 am in The Hoffman Building where everyone gathered for coffee and croissant and an opportunity find their bearings. A short introduction and housekeeping necessities were followed by the first of four workshop sessions led by some of the UK’s leading folk artists.
Dave Shepherd and Anna Pack filled the Britten Studio with dancers learning french bal dance whilst Leveret helped others to ” Get tunes off the page”. The Young’uns hot footed it down from Shoreham after their final show of The Transports tour to be ready for a Singing in Harmony workshop in the second session.
Through out the day, new skills were learnt , friendships kindled and much laughter heard.
Before the evening of intimate performances and dance began, we all enjoyed a fine meal together in the Oyster Bar, overlooking the reed beds.
A glorious day.
Thank you to all of you who came and helped launch this new venture. You warmed up a winter weekend.
Enjoy the photographs from John Heald. We hope to see you back at Snape in 2018.
I feel so lucky to have been able to participate in an event with such talented musicians! Their approach to playing Folk music was so refreshing and it has really inspired me. EB
We had a great day, and not simply because of the music and dancing. Everyone involved was extremely friendly, warm and welcoming. SH
